Yorkshire Junior Hundred 2023 —

Sheffield Champions

Again

Sheffield’s Sharrow Stars celebrate with the trophy after winning the Yorkshire Junior Hundred 2023 at Park Avenue, Bradford.

Two in two for Sheffield. Fresh from the city title, Sharrow Stars represented Sheffield at Yorkshire Finals Day in Bradford and brought the county trophy home again. The day rewarded clear roles, calm chases and brave hitting when it mattered. Credit to players, parents and coaches across Sheffield—and to the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation for coordinating an event that lets city winners meet and test themselves.

Semi‑final: Sheffield v Kirklees

The Final: Sheffield v Leeds

Asked to bat, Sheffield 163/7 (89 balls)—a momentum innings built by Seth Warrington 40 (11, 4×6), Zayan Khan 21 (16) and Taha Sajid 30 (19, 2×4, 2×6). Leeds 117 all out (78 balls)—a 61‑run stand fought back before wickets and sharp fielding swung it our way. Sheffield win by 46 runs to retain the title.

Player of the Day

Seth Warrington (Sheffield): 74 runs off 24 balls across the day (SR 308), 4 wickets @ avg 9.5—decisive in both games.

How it played out. Finals Days turn on moments—retirements, squeeze overs, and the courage to keep scoring when the rate bites. In Bradford, Sheffield handled those beats. Against Kirklees, the new‑ball spell was disciplined and the middle overs were tighter still, with Seth and Zayan sharing six between them before a measured chase. In the final with Leeds, an early wobble didn’t last; Seth arrived and changed the tempo, Taha finished in control, and the bowlers closed it out with smart fields and safe hands.

Why it matters. Back‑to‑back Yorkshire champions confirms the pathway is working—from Sheffield’s Junior Hundred into a city representative side that looks like a team: communication sharp, roles clear, and belief earned over the summer.

Thanks. Our thanks to the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation for coordinating the county event, the staff at Park Avenue for hosting, and the parents and coaches whose energy carries these days.

“It’s a great community competition showcasing young people.”

Two years, two county titles: confidence for this group and a marker for the next. We’ll keep the door open — to local madrasahs, to established clubs (and more we aim to reach), and to the parks where our coaches and scouts are out finding talent. If you love the game, there’s a way in: open sessions, club pathways, a Sheffield junior tournament and this very event.
