The Men’s Hundred 2022 brought fast-paced, community-powered cricket to Sheffield as part of the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation’s (YCF) pilot programme. Four local teams — from Firvale, Firth Park, Pagehall and Tinsley — battled it out in the new 100-ball format designed for excitement, inclusivity and connection.
Over 96 participants took part across four weeks at Sheffield Caribbean Sports Club and Sheffield Civil Service Sports Ground, playing side-by-side in a celebration of cricket, culture and cohesion. The tournament aimed to improve health and wellbeing in some of Sheffield’s most diverse communities, while giving players the chance to experience the newest evolution of the game.
The competition began with fireworks.
Firvale Falcons launched their campaign in style as Asif Mohmand (3 for 3) and Zayn Wasim (4 for 9) ripped through Tinsley Thunder for 70 all out. Haroon Tariq’s composed 42* sealed a commanding win.
On the neighbouring pitch, Pagehall Panthers chased 195 with ease thanks to Mustafa Hussain’s spectacular 109* off 49 balls (7 sixes, 11 fours), sinking Firth Park Warriors with seven balls to spare.
Tinsley Thunder regrouped to bowl out Pagehall for 103, before Naveed Shah’s rapid 50* (27 balls, 5 sixes) powered them to victory.
Meanwhile Firvale Falcons made it two wins from two as Haroon Tariq (45*) anchored the chase against Firth Park. Firvale were the only side unbeaten after two weeks.
With one final place already secured for Firvale, the remaining three teams fought for Net Run Rate.
Pagehall defeated Firvale by 16 runs despite Mustafa Hussain’s 45, but their NRR fell short of qualification.
Firth Park Warriors produced a decisive 31-run victory over Tinsley — Adeel Malik blazing 66 (30 balls, 8 fours, 4 sixes) and Shak Jamil taking 3 for 15 — to book the second spot in the final.
The 22 August final was shortened to 80 balls per side due to light. Firvale Falcons posted 118/9 after Shak Jamil’s 4-wicket burst halted their momentum.
In reply, Adeel Malik once again delivered under pressure — an unbeaten 64* off 34 balls (7 fours, 4 sixes) steering Firth Park Warriors home by five wickets.
The winning six sparked ecstatic celebrations and sealed Sheffield’s first-ever Men’s Hundred title.

The Yorkshire Cricket Foundation's Men’s Hundred 2022 showed how sport can build friendships and healthy habits across Sheffield’s diverse communities. The competition sparked new local interest in the short-format game and created pathways for players to county-level programmes.
Winners Firth Park Warriors earned the right to represent Sheffield at the Yorkshire Hundred Finals Day in Scarborough on 4 September 2022 — we wish them luck as they fly the flag for our city.
